What Makes Spencer Trumpets So Special?
With a lifetime of playing experience and hundreds of hours spent customising instruments for some of the world’s finest trumpeters, Will has gained a unique wealth of knowledge, enabling him to build instruments suited to players at every level and across all musical genres.
Unlike most new trumpets, every Spencer trumpet is extensively tested and optimised by Will throughout the construction process. This human interaction gives players the sense that their instrument is not merely a well-built product, but a unique musical instrument exuding character and soul.
A common and well documented problem that is rarely addressed when purchasing a trumpet is the breakdown of brass caused by red-rot, or dezincification. Will has replaced hundreds of leadpipes and slides that have suffered from this issue, and to prevent it occurring in his own instruments, only uses high-quality leadpipes that contain little or no zinc.
Before completion, customers are invited to spend time fine-tuning performance characteristics such as tuning, tone, response, and comfort. This collaborative process takes place in a friendly, relaxed environment, giving players the opportunity to fully enjoy the exciting and rewarding experience of bringing their dream instrument to life.

How Expensive Is A Spencer Custom-Built Trumpet?
As in most other industries, the majority of today’s trumpet manufacturers promote cutting-edge innovations, reflected in eye-watering prices. Whilst manufacturing technology is undoubtably advancing, many experienced players question whether these so-called upgrades result in better instruments and despite the ever-increasing number of new models available, many top players still continue to seek out vintage trumpets, built by companies such as Bach, Benge, and Olds.
The best instrument is the one that suits the player and not necessarily the one with the highest price tag. With this in mind, Will combines his unique skills, industry-leading components, and the absence of dealer mark-ups to offer passionately built custom trumpets at around half the price of most other professional instruments.
Buying a musical instrument is a major undertaking and Will advises customers to try out other models at a specialist brass shop before visiting Spencer Trumpets.
